The New Bankruptcy Law
Public Law No: 109-8 Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005 Enacted April 20, 2005 Effective Monday October 17, 2005.
The new law requires those consumers seeking bankruptcy relief to get credit counseling from a nonprofit agency before filing. In addition, debtors have to complete an approved course on personal financial management before the final bankruptcy determination.
